Two quick questions...

One: Undine and Moria have recently posted the joys of two non-Microsoft word processors that work beautifully...for Mac. Anyone have any suggestions for PC users?

Two: I have recently switched from drip coffeemaker to the French press, which I vastly prefer, except for the clean-up, which seems messy, and never very good for the drain, which always ends up taking more coffee grounds than seems a good idea. Anyone have any good ideas for getting around this?

OK...that's all. Now go on and look at the house pics below.

One: Corel Word Perfect. (although...is it by Microsoft?) My opinion might be a bit slanted, however...my mom has always used it for her transcription business and I learned the ins and outs of the program in 8th grade, so I've had a lot of practice. I'm not sure how user-friendly it is if you've never used it before.

Two: The French press coffee ground situation is, unfortunately, a necessary evil for creating a delicious cup of coffee. Scoop out the remaining grounds with a spoon and use them as house plant fertilizer, or flush them down the toilet. (Kind of gross, but it DOES save your sink drains.)

One: OpenOffice.org's Writer. Open source, free, compatible with Zotero for quick and easy citation creation. Very user-friendly. OOo's other programs--clones for all of the MS Office Suite--are also very good.

Two: Mo's right. Use the grounds for fertilizer.

Compost bin! And you can add food scraps and chopped up leaves and such and have WONDERFUL compost for the garden in the future. If you don't use it right away - no worries, it keeps. Starbucks will actually bag up their grounds to give to you. We pour ours into a sink-side container with a lid (swirl a little water in there to loosen the grounds) and take it out when its full of grounds and vegetable ends. No meat, fat or cheese, though! Good luck!

Horace, I wish that were me, but I'm just a Mac wannabe. Open Office works pretty well, though I usually stick with an increasingly ancient version of Word.
